A DUI in the United States would result in you being inadmissible to enter Canada.
Normally, there are two courses of action which one would take: (a) seek a pardon and expungement of both convictions in the jurisdiction where the convictions were handed down or, failing that (b) apply for a process called "rehabilitation" with Citizenship & Immigration Canada. The latter of the two (rehabilitation) cannot be applied for until after at least 5 years from the date of the conviction OR the date the sentence/probation was finished (whichever is latest). Unfortunately, you may not yet be eligible for that program because of the 2006 conviction.

As such, the only option open to you is a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) which can be issued by the Canadian Consulate. It is a purely discretionary permit to enter temporarily.
