There are two issues here.
One is about access to the kids and the second is about her defaming you.
I will address both but it will take a few minutes.

In terms of her threats to defame you, there are a couple of things you can do.
First, though, it is a good idea to do what you did and speak to the lawyer and the police.
What you can also do is retain a lawyer to write a letter to her. The letter can demand that she cease and desist threatening you.
The letter can warn her that you will commence legal proceedings against her if she does indeed defame you.
The other thing to do is keep a record of any time she approaches you, threatens you etc and make sure you do not have any contact with her without a witness present.
It may also be a good idea to consider discussing this with the father who could be a witness for you if necessary.
Do you want suggestions on how to find a lawyer who is independent of the union?

I don't think that's necessary.
At this point you really just want someone to write a letter.
A local civil litigation lawyer would be fine.

I would suggest that you see a lawyer and have the lawyer document all these concerns and also consider having the lawyer contact the police on your behalf and indicate what is going on.
