VerifiedYour father can make a freedom of information access request to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A link to the web site containing contact information to mail the letter is below. If a response is not received, you can file a complaint to the federal privacy commissioner.
The Canadian government would keep records of former citizens who renounce their citizenship.
I suggest that you try to simultaneously obtain the information from the U.S. and Canadian governments.
Yet, it is quite possible that a response from the U.S. government indicating when your grandfather became a U.S. citizen would occur first.
