Now to your legal question: The father of the baby is responsible to pay support. The court will order him to pay based on his income. It is very, very, very rare that a father would not have to pay support. In fact, once support is ordered, there can be sanctions up to and including time in jail if he refuses to pay.
That said, keep in mind that if you are on social assistance they may deduct the support amount from your assistance cheque.
