I have a small management company in Mtl. My husband and i
I have a small management company in Mtl. My husband and i created it to develop and then manage a small building where we house our arts organization. We invested our life savings into this project and it has been functioning harmoniously for more than 20 years. We founded a small managment company to manage the building, in order to create a healthy community of artist studios and organizations and to prevent socialogical clashes amongst the tenants. The original owner (Nelson) of the building really loved us and we had a healthy and friendly relationship. Sadly, Nelson died last November and his son Jeff is now representing the heirs who are himself, his two sisters and the owners wife. The situation is that the new owners, want me to cancel the lease (which is registered) and cancel the leases of the other tenants, and they want to raise the rates. Jeff called me two weeks to inform me this, and I said while I understand his perspective, I would need to speak to my accountant about this, which i did. The outcome is that I have had to say no to Jeff and his family's request, because obviously, I can not cancel the tenants leases (out of respect for them) and also for legal reasons. Consequently, I have sent several emails to Jeff, to this effect, as well as a recent email to inquire and confirm the address where i should send next years postdated rent cheques, for the buildings monthly rents, and have not heard back from Jeff. Now, i wonder, if this is a strategy that if Jeff and his family do not have the postdated cheques in hand, that they can then cancel my management companies lease between myself and themselves because the rent is not paid and in the lease it says that if the rent is not paid, the lease can be cancelled, Consequently, . I need to find a legal way to get those post dated cheques into the hands of the owners of the building I manage, before July 1, 2019, but I dont know how to do that. This is very stressful for me, especially as my husband, Daniel, who was my beloved for 35 years, and partner in the management company, sadly also passed away, and tragicaly his death was caused by a medical error. So I am also dealing with grief and that emotional state is adding to the stress of the current situation as to how do i get those cheques to the new owners for the rent for their building if Jeff does not confirm the address to send those cheques? … read more
