I have a common law property question. Ontario. Nothing
I need to know 1. if I am allowed to be in the house or my partner can call the police to have me removed. 2. if I am entitled to a 50% amount of what the house sells for if we sell it. Background: We bought the house with a 50/50 down payment 5 years ago. We are not married. My partner Mario has been making payments but I pay the bills and raise our special needs child. Mario and his mother are on title to property and I am not on title. Mario says his Mom has $100,000 invested into the property, through paying off line of credit that she shares with Mario, apparently which is news to me Mario had to use to take out mortgage payments from the LOC. $10,000 for a new water heater. Paying 50% of the downpayment. Mario said all of the upgrades to the house have been paid by him such as the shed, cedars, and a fence. Mario and his mother are making me feel very pressured to give them what they want. Have threatened me with big lawyers, telling me I'm not going to like what they had to say that since the downpayment was gifted the money to me it can only go to my parents.… read more
