Any claim that employment discrimination is occurring has to tie back to you having been in a protected class against which you were overtly discriminated by your employer (race/color; ethnicity/national origin; sex;pregnancy; religion; political affiliation; language; citizenship; disability; age; sexual orientation; marital status, etc.).

In essence you would need to prove that the reason you aren't receiving the raise is because of a consistent pattern of discrimination against you based on one of those elements. However, nothing in the above seems to give rise to that.

From what you've indicated you didn't suggest that your employers are singling you out because you're too old / not Canadian / not thin enough / etc. simply that they are not paying a salary that is commensurate with that of your peers or commensurate with the role you perform. You have not indicated comments or a pattern of passing-over other than this one instance -- which could also be an issue of new employees having performed better during an evaluation period, having advanced qualifications or even having negotiated better entry pay.

Where you may have a claim is for the expected pay raise for the new job for the period until the new functions became part of your job description. However you would need to establish that (in addition to the $0.50) you were detrimentally affected by moving to the new role in some fashion.

With respect to paying peers more despite less service, unless any interaction (or whether you know for a fact that your qualifications and experience are identical or superior to your peers and that the only difference is age/sex/ethnicity/etc.) then, although it could be poor personnel management (to begin with having salary rates revealed or publicized amongst employees is never a good practice) I still do not see any indicia of employment discrimination.

If, however, you have been singled out or have had some other indicia of actions singling you out or disfavoring you BECAUSE of your age, race /ethnicity, sex, weight, etc. then you should reduce every instance (preferably if you remembered the dates as well) and meet with a local employment lawyer and have them review everything (with particular attention also being paid to your employment history/qualifications, job descriptions and the roles/job descriptions of those employees you feel have been favored over you).

My recommendation is to see what those peers who have received raises have done (in a tangible performance sense) and see if you can meet those performance goals. Alternatively, if your employer is not rewarding your performance and simply overlooking your performance (but not rising to the point of discrimination) you should then simply look elsewhere and find a better role with an organization that does a better job of recognizing your efforts.
