She is not getting proper...

My granddaughter is pregnant, and her boyfriend is controlling. She is not getting proper sleep, eating right, or getting propeer exercise. He smokes in front of her and when we try to give her some advice, he takes her away. When she stays at her moms for the night, he calls her all night long. She tried to find a balance between his home and hers, but he started to cry and said he could'nt live without her. He says if she does'nt stay with him, he will break up with her and not have anything to do with the baby. He has a number of sign of a controlling partner and I don't want to see her in years to come in an abusive relationship. She will not listen to her mom or snyone. He is the only one who is right. Is there anything we can do to protect the baby.

The problem is that she is an adult (legally) and there's not much you can do in terms of protecting her from him or even from herself or protecting the unborn baby unless you feel that she's mentally unfit and is a danger to herself or the baby.

When the baby is born, if you are afraid for the child's well being you can consider bringing an application for custody of the child. You would have to show that it's in the best interests of the child (the baby).

Given your post it would make sense for you to monitor things closely and also keep a written journal of what you see, especially after the baby is born.

If you ever feel it's time for you to retain a lawyer then what you can do to find a lawyer is one of the following things.

You can contact the Law Society and use their Lawyer Referral Service. You will be given the name of a lawyer and can consult with the lawyer and the first half hour will be free.

She is not mentatly unfit, just under his inflluence. I am afraid she is not taking proper precautions for a healthy baby. How do I make sure she takes care of herself and provides the baby with all it needs to develope fully. If the boyfriend is preventing this from happening, how do I make sure the baby is born healthy and fully developed.

Unfortunately, from a legal perspective you cannot do this so long as she is mentally competent.

You cannot make her eat properly or prevent her from being exposed to stress etc.

It's unfortunate because she is a child herself but she is legally an adult and she's competent to make her own decisions even if they are wrong.
