VerifiedWhen the bills are in his name then strictly speaking, he's liable for them. I assume we're talking utilities here. Of course, he has an argument that since you're in the home that you should be liable for them, and he'd be right. However, the utilities can't come after you to pay them if your name isn't on the bill.
Having said that, if the bills aren't paid then the utilities get cut off, and you're the one who will suffer for that.
So, the simple answer is that you aren't obligated to pay them until the court orders you to, as your name isn't on the bills.
