I am a full time...

I am a full time surgical nurse. I met a man and after 4 months we decided to get pregnant. We did not live together. After I became pregnant he abandaned me. I had to take stress leave from work, I was devastated at the thought of being a single parent. I was off work from March12, 2009 to July 1,2009. I am now 3000.00 dollars in debt from not working, medical employment insurance will not even cover half of my lost wages. Can I sue the other party for those monies?

Do you belong to a union?

Are you getting any child support from the father?

I misscarried the baby last week, probably from the stress. A doctor took me out of work because i was under so much stress.

Jennifer, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I don't see how you can sue your ex for what happened to you. Since you both engaged in a sexual relationship and a pregnancy can result from that, there's no cause for bringing a suit for that. You might be able to bring a suit for intentional infliction of emotional distress, but I think it would be a stretch because you'd have to show that his abandoning you was not just to get away from his potential responsibilities as a father but meant to cause you substantial stress in and of itself. That would be hard to prove. However, if you want to explore this option go see a personal injury lawyer. They advertise widely and you should have no trouble finding one. Regarding your workplace, I'll assume that you belong to a union and if you have a diagnosis of severe depression then the union should be fighting to get you as much disability monies as you are entitled to. If you aren't in some counselling, I recommend that you look into it. This has clearly affected you deeply. I wish you well, Jennifer. Your story has touched me. I wish I could help more. Good luck.
