You can contact the Law Society and use their Lawyer Referral Service. They will give you names of three family lawyers. You can consult with any or all of them and the first half hour will be free. That way you can get a feel for which one you feel most comfortable with and also find out what they charge.
I don't now any family lawyers personally in Ottawa or Kingston but there is one woman who has an excellent reputation who is in Ottawa, if that's not too far for you.
