You can sue for defamation,and you can do this in small claims court.
Defamation cases work when you can prove the statements are
A) false
B) known by the stator to be false
C) cause damage to reputation
D) a reasonable person in like circumstances would have an impared judgment about you.
The above appears to be the case.
As you have documents social and occupational difficulties, you should sue in small claims for the maximum amount.
Be warned, that defamation is hard to prove, and the courts don't like the cases so you need to show significant loss.
You also have a claim if you dismissed over this especially when HR knows they are rumours. In addition you have a Charter claim as you could say even if it was true you have a freedom of religion, and it is not you that is saying these issues. n other words you cannot be fired over this based on what you have said.
