They certainly can't force you to pay. It would like they are making up some number and you are bound by it because they tell you what it cost. This isn't possible of course because that's not how contracts work. And, they know this because they aren't saying to send it all back, they are saying to send back 10%

The 10% figure is illogical as well because they pulled it out of thin air. I can see them demanding it all back but the 10% seems very odd. Or, is there a typo in your post because you say some of you gave away over 10%. Perhaps they want it all back?

If you can't give it back I am not sure what they expect you to do.

If they took you to Court I can't see a Judge ordering that you pay them the $2000. It seems clear that you legitimately thought it was free and you did keep ordering more which makes it even more clear.

But, once you found out about their error it might not have been OK fo continue to use and give away the product.

If they sue you then you can defend their law suit by explaining what happened. Your weakest point will be explaining why you gave it all away once you knew they had erred.

It's very unlikely they will sue as they would have to sue in your province and this would be practically difficult and possibley expense. Unless there are many of you for them to sue I can't see them doing it.

I also don't see what you have to lose if they do sue you. If they are suing for $2000 then they would sue in Small Claims Court. You can act for yourself and can always settle before trial.
