This is a tough situation.
You are liable for the reasonable costs associated with the vet, primarily because your dog caused that damage, and in addition it was caused on their yard. Had the cat been injured on your land, then your argument would be very different.
The care needs to be reasonable. They can not expect you to pay for a provision or result which is not prudent, unreasonable, and not foreseeable.
