That's actually my birthday too.

As your son is an adult you will have to apply for what is called an involuntary admission under the under the Mental Patients Protection Act.

Because you feel that your son is in danger of harming himself you can fill out a Court application. You will also need a witness who can testify about your son's behaviour or thinking. The Court can order and= involuntary admission for the purposes of a psychiatric assessment. The Court at this time cannot make an order for treatment.

You can obtain the form at your local CLSC. There will be staff there who can assist you in filling out the application.

Court orders can be made every day and if you want an appointment on the same day you will be able to get one so long as you call in the morning.

After you get the order you will have to take it to the police station closest to where you son lives and the police will call an ambulance to take your son to the hospital.

You son will be examined by 2 psychiatrists within the first 24 hours of his involuntary admission and then they will either release him or decide to retain him in the hospital.
