The botXXXXX XXXXXne is if you pay month to month,, then AT LAW there is an IMPLIED term that you will give one months notice before you leave.
It does not matter if there is no written contract
It does not matter if you did not stay there.
The terms are established by the pay period, which you paid monthly. If you paid weekly then you only need to give a weeks notice, and vice versa.
This is an implied term to the law based on occupancy.
I am sorry you do not like what i am saying but you need to consider yourself lucky. If this was an apartment you would have to pay 6 weeks, as in Ontario, EVEN if there is no written contract, you must give 60 days notice if you pay month to month.
That does not apply to you as this was a boarding situation. As such you only have to give the notice of the pay period meaning one month if you paid monthly.
