Your son of 11 would have a say in where he wants to live. The closeness to family, friends and previous roots are all supporting factors. You need to ensure you have an established residency in BC, with an ability to support your son.
The courts will prefer to have the child in a known area close to family and a support network then alone with his father in a different province.

No it would not be illegal for you to move to BC now, but you will need to inform your husband. Deliberately withholding the location is illegal.
I would suggest you talk to an attorney prior to the move to ensure you do not inadvertently break the law.
