There are a few options for you in terms of locating a lawyer in Ontario and receive pro bono legal services. Here are some options that may be available to you:

LAWYER REFERRALS

Law Society of Ontario

If you are finding it difficult to find a local lawyer in Ontario, you can contact the Law Society of Ontario and use their Lawyer Referral Service (LRS). Here is a link to the site: https://lsrs.lso.ca/lsrs/welcome

The LSO can refer you to a lawyer that will provide you with a consultation and after the consultation, you can decide from that point to retain the lawyer to assist you.

PRO BONO LEGAL SERVICES

Legal Aid Ontario provides access to free lawyers. Legal Aid's web site provides details of the eligibility requirements and also how to apply for legal aid.

Pro Bono Ontario have lawyers who can offer legal consultations and sometimes legal work for free, called on a “pro bono” basis. Their web site can be found here:

If a Justice of the Superior Court of Justice has made a decision on a motion in your case, you can appeal the decision either to the Divisional Court of the Ontario Court of Appeal. Which court you appeal to depends on the nature of the decision and whether it is a final or interim order. In some cases, you need to file a motion seeking leave (permission) to appeal a decision. The grounds for an appeal depends on the type of the appeal.

If you want to appeal a decision of a Superior Court of Justice order made in family court in Ontario, you must follow the rules set out in the Family Law Rules and the Rules of Civil Procedure. The process typically involves the following steps:
File a motion seeking leave to appeal the order if leave is necessary to appeal.

File a Notice of Appeal: You must file a Notice of Appeal in the court where the original order was made. The Notice of Appeal must be filed within 30 days of the order being made or within 7 days depending on the type of order.

Serve the Notice of Appeal: You must serve a copy of the Notice of Appeal on all parties involved in the case, including the trial judge and any other parties who were involved in the original proceeding.

File the Appeal Record: You must file the Appeal Record, which includes a copy of the original order, any transcripts of the evidence, and any other documents filed in the original proceeding. The Appeal Record must be filed within 60 days of filing the Notice of Appeal.

File the Appellant's Factum: You must file the Appellant's Factum, which sets out the grounds of your appeal, within 30 days of filing the Appeal Record.

File the Respondent's Factum: The respondent (usually your ex-partner or the other party in the original proceeding) must file a Respondent's Factum within 30 days of receiving the Appellant's Factum.

Attend the Appeal Hearing: The appeal hearing will be scheduled by the court. Both parties will be given an opportunity to make submissions to the court. The court will then make a decision on the appeal.

It's important to note that the appeal process can be complex and time-consuming, and it's strongly recommended that you seek the advice of an experienced family law lawyer if you are considering appealing a decision of a Superior Court of Justice order made in family court. Many of the time-lines above can change depending on the type of order being appealed and so you should retain a lawyer to review all the facts and the order to determine what process to follow to appeal an order. I cannot express an opinion on time-lines or limitation periods to meet and so you should retain a lawyer right away. The information above is for general information only.
