My ex fiancé will not allow me to see our dog. I’d like 50%

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. My phone charger broke inside my phone! And I couldn't charge it. I just had it fixed and is now charging.
He paid for her, but she was registered in my mane with the town, my name at the vets and my name at the pet store where I get her food and treats.
I was the one that walked her. I was the one that took her to the vets, I was the one that did almost everything with her. I was her human. She only ran to him when I wasn't there, or I was trying to clip her nails.
I'm guessing that doesn't make a difference legally. But it should!

She was going to be “ours” but he also said he (way after we had her) that he had things in place in case we ever broke up.
His ex kept their dog Murray, but let his Grandparents watch him while she was at work. Until she found out he was seeing someone else, then Murray wasn’t allowed to see his Nanny and Poppy anymore.
And that broke everyone’s heart. I said I would never do anything like that, cause it’s not right for the animal or for his Grandparents.
When we went to separate houses, I had all three animals, 2 cats and the dog. The cats are littermates, and don’t like being separated. ( when they were neutered the vet put them in separate cages and once they woke up, they were howling for each other. The Vet put them in a cage together, they both stopped yelling and went to sleep. You can’t separate them. They are bonded.I’m sorry, that wasn’t grammatically correct.
I’m not asking for 100% custody, I just want to be able to see her. Even if it was every second weekend.
His new wife has 4 cats and a dog. So Lilly is now 1 of 6 pets, and if he took one of the cats, which is what he wanted, (litter mates, can’t separate them) Toeny would be one of 7!
I know he loves his pets, but so do I! Just because he got married (just a bit more than a year after we split.) doesn’t mean I ever get to see her again!

She was supposed to be our dog. I didn’t want to go through puppyhood, or get another dog right away, (we just lost our older rescued dog Dave- it was heartbreaking) but as soon as I saw her picture, I was like, “yeah, I want her, she’s ours) and we had her once they were old enough to go to new homes.
I did say that I wasn’t going to pay a backyard brewer for puppies that were an “oops”, but that I would pay for the vet bills. And that’s what he told me we paid for. Her final vet visit.
I, personally, won’t buy from breeders, there are enough animals out there. Adopt, do shop! But she has been my baby and rock for (what was) 5 years. I moved out to the middle of nowhere because I couldn’t find an apartment that would allow dogs, (even on a 50% timeline) spent over a $1000, moving out here. (My parents were looking after her while I was technically homeless)
When my brother was getting married, I had to find a sitter for a few days, I asked a Mutual friend if he could look after her. I was not aware that they had plans for the day I had arranged to pick her up. That they were going somewhere that weekend following the babysitting. My mother broke her wrist at the wedding but would not let us tell my brother. So the day I was to pick Lilly up, I called Jason (the ex) to see if he could do it, cause I wanted to make sure my mother had food for the week and then that all she had to do was put it in the microwave.He freaked out cause he was helping his new girlfriend move to her late fathers house, and because he had an ex that was freaking g out at his (currant) apartment. I said I would go and get her, leaving my mother alone, while my dad was at work.Jason said never mind- don’t bother, he was already on his way to the south shore.
I thought that since he haven’t seen her in a while, (always too busy) and since I had just moved, it would be good for both of them to have some time together, while I was setting up the new place. (Way outside of town)
I asked him maybe 3 or 4 times in July and August, if I could have her to take her to the beach, and he said, she just getting settled in. So I thought, ok, let her get settled, I’ll take her next time.Then in September, I had a car accident. At that time I was glad he had her to look after. I was In Hospital for almost 2 weeks, and I stayed at my parents for another 3 weeks, (I really should not been on my own) when I did contact him, he told me he was keeping her cause I had the cats.I just sent a few messages to the "active questions" on the "just answer" site.The idea was that she was our dog.he is insistent that he keep her and I never see her again.He thinks that’s fair cause I have the catsI have an appointment, I will be back and able to answer any questions around 4:30

I really can't do anything?

I don't know if the "breeder" gave him an official receipt, or anything like that.if I were to try and go forward with this, it's just really going to depend on the judge?

Is there anything else I can do? She's not being neglected, but she's gained a lot of weight since I had her.You are in California? Do you know if these laws are the same in Canada?

If I get all her Vet records and proof that I had her registered with the town, and copies of the receipts for stuff at the pet store, will that help?

When I get all the papers together, what do I do?
