Copperlaw : There's really nothing "legal" you should do to prepare for visitation
Copperlaw : With regard to child support, it is possible that she could pursue him for support and she would be successful if she is the custodial parent.
Copperlaw : The support amounts are fixed for each province, based upon income of the payor

Ok, but how do we protect ourselves? What if the ex decides to play friendly and suddenly tries to chase him for 6 yrs child support? I was told she didn't do any paperwork because then he'd have rights, but I also don't know what she's capable of. I assume this would all start with a paternity test if he's not on the birth certificate?
Copperlaw : If you he has concerns that he is not the father then yes, he could ask the court to adjourn the matter pending completion of paternity testing, were she to file court documents seeking support
Copperlaw : There's not much you can do to protect yourself. If she's going to file, she'll file. Support is viewed as the right and benefit of the child, not the parent
Copperlaw : If she up and moved with the child, denying him all access, this could be a mitigating factor when a judge considered her claim and his support obligation

No not yet. I just learned today, my adopted mother is trying to place my sister in the care of the brother, who molested me years ago, when the mother passes on. She is 74 yrs old. She has crohn's disease and is getting older. I guess she's trying to make sure my sister is put in a safe home. I had an alcohol and drug addiction 7 yrs ago. I am now clean and sober. My children and grandchild, who is autistic, resided with her until I could get my life in order. However, my children and grandchildren are not living with her anymore but live near her still.
