I am sorry to hear about your daughter's injury.

Regarding the dentist, there is nothing inappropriate in paying the dentist directly. If this issue went to the court, it is not uncommon that the court deals with extraordinary expenses in just such a manner, ordering payments directly from the parents to a third party.

This is often ordered as it then avoids having one parent needing to wait for reimbursement from the other. It also helps to avoid a situation where one parent has submitted a claim for insurance to cover the expense and then does not bother to tell the other parent about that and continues to get paid that parent's portion of the full amount, instead of just toward the amount not covered by insurance.

There could be an issue also about whether there is any obligation upon you to pay towards the dental bills. If you are doing this as you see it as fair, that is fine, but if you are paying because you think it was required on behalf of your daughter, that is a different matter. An obligation to pay towards such bills would be based on a proportionate split between the parents having regard to their respective incomes, so this expense would be shared equally only if the parents have equal incomes. If his income was higher, then he would pay the higher percentage of this cost. This is also based on current income at the time the expense is incurred, and if these are current bills, then the proportionate sharing should be based on your daugther's income from LTD, not her last years employment income.

Regarding the line of credit, if she accepted the line of credit as a co-signor, then you would have to have the consent of the other co-signor and also the lender in order to remove her name. This would be a contract that would remain binding on her and so the other parties do not have to agree. The bank is not likely to agree to release her name as they would want to be able to sue as many people as possible if there is a default on the credit line. You could contact the bank and on see if they will at least agree with the request of one of the two co-signors that the account should be frozen, with no further credit advanced past this time. Or see if once the balance is paid if the account can then be closed at the request of one of the two people, so that there is not some continued threat that he will run up the credit line and then default and leave it to your daughter to pay.

There is nothing that a court can do to force removal of her name from the credit line. The court could make an order that as between her and him, who is to pay. But the court cannot make an order that removes her name as that would be contrary to the credit contract made with the lender. So even if you take him to court about this, the court will say it cannot change an agreement made with the third party, the lender.
