What your daughter can do is send the truck company a letter by Registered Mail. In the letter she should set out the facts and demand that they reimburse her for the costs she has to incur by a deadline that she sets.

She should tell then if they fail to comply she will commence legal proceedings and then will be seeking interest and her costs.

She can then sue them in Small Claims Court and self-represent. If it gets that far and your daughter finds she needs some help as she goes through the process she can always post on this site again and I can assist you further.

I didn't realize that she was in the US. She would sue them in the US and then get a judgement and then have to enforce the judgement in Ontario. She could hire a licenced paralegal in Ontario rather than a lawyer and it wouldn't cost that much but she first needs to get the judgement in the US.

A paralegal is a fraction of the cost of a lawyer.
