It should be pretty isolated, I don't see what else it should affect other than your body control module will throw an error for a communication error of course. See the attached diagram of that system and module.

Oh that's not even a bad one haha.  The liftgate is on the left side with all the wires going into it, and then running out to various liftgate sensors.  It shouldn't ever default to open even if power is somehow restored as the module has a speed and gear detection logic to it as well.

Yes, that would work as well.  By the end of this, we'll have that button working too!

Once in any gear it's not able to, and if it is open it will throw a fit about it.  I'm just West of Indianapolis, in a town called Brownsburg.

Not sure on the switch, we'll have to do some testing first.  If the module has had moisture in it the whole time, it could cause that.

Oh that color is amazing!!  Those are such good looking SUV's.  If it's in a rear door, the door panel would have to be taken off, then it's accessible.

What's the worst that could happen, you snap off a retainer clip moulding and have to buy a new door panel haha.  Well if you're interested I can send of the whole factory procedure on how to do it.  Dealers are funny, b/c it's so dependent on the tech you get.  Some are amazing and great, and some just don't have a clue.

Sorry for the delay, but here's the horrible GM procedure on that door panel.  It really is pretty simple, but they could have put together a more descriptive rundown haha.  The panel does pop off pretty easily after you get the two fasteners shown as 1 out, then just be sure to undo the electrical connector and the lock cable.
