Just purchased a 2014 Cadillac srx. When I open the rear lift gate with the key, it releases the lock but does not lift.

Can you look in the rear floor, maybe in the spare tire compartment and check for water intrusion?

I can't now but not sure how that would impact the operation on the liftgate?
The rear sunroof drains have been known to leak into the vehicle. When they do, they leak right onto the liftgate control module. Water in the module will cause it to fail.

Yes, and most likely the connector as well. The water turns everything green with corrosion.

Is the power liftgate turned on?

are you talking about the switch on the driver's door?
It's turned on? Can you operate the liftgate from that switch?

It does the same thing from the switch. It opens but doesn't power open.

I also checked 2 fuses in the rear panel.
This power liftgate has a myriad of sensors and switches. The easiest way to proceed from this point is to hook up a scan tool and see if it has any trouble codes stored in the liftgate module. Can you do that?

I can go to an auto parts store and have them test for me.
Most of the scan tools at auto parts stores will only read engine codes, but it's worth a try...

what type if scanner should I get or use?
Don't get me wrong, I'd try the parts store first. You may end up at the dealership if the parts store cannot get a code...
