The Service Rear Axle Light came on while driving this morning on my 2011 Cadillac SRX. Can I continue to drive the car or does it need to be towed for service?

Perfectly fine...I braked on the freeway to assist a stranded motorist and while the brake was compressed, the light came on

when that light is on the rear axle module/computer is getting a wrong signal and is trying to control the rear axle pump and control valve

90 % of these are fixed with a rear axle fluid change and a new pressure control valve

it is fine to drive for a little while but i would get it into the shop as soon as you can to get it looked at and repaired

Is this a costly repair? Online, people are stating their light has come on when temperatures are below 20 degrees which is the case in Ohio right now.

yes it can be but that is due to old dirty fluid

usually you start with a rear axle fluid service which will run you 150 range
