I would try putting the remote in the pocket in the center console first. It might relearn itself before going through the relearn procedure.

To relearn here are the steps.

  • This procedure will unlearn all previously learned transmitters. All transmitters that are to be programmed must be with the vehicle at the time of service.
  • This procedure will take approximately 30 min to complete.
  • A total of four transmitters can be learned to a single vehicle.
  • This procedure will only learn the vehicle transmitter information.
  • This procedure may be used with or without existing learned transmitters being present. If existing transmitters are present, keep the transmitters away from the vicinity of the vehicle. Failure to keep learned transmitters away from the vehicle will result in the learn changing to the Adding Transmitters procedure.

  • The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console storage area, at the rear of the storage compartment.
  • The transmitter must be inserted with the buttons facing towards the front of the vehicle and the key ring at the top.
  • The transmitter must be fully inserted in the pocket. If a large key ring prevents the transmitter from being fully inserted, remove the key ring and place the transmitter in the pocket. Failure to position the transmitter fully in the pocket will result in an inability to program.
  1. Insert the mechanical key of the new transmitter into the key lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver door on wagons or the lock cylinder in the trunk lid on coupes and turn the key to the unlock position five times within 5 s.
  2. The driver information center will display Press Start Control To Learn. Press in on the ignition control knob and wait 10 min.
  3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times, for a total of 30 min. All previously known transmitters have now been unlearned. Remaining transmitters can be relearned during the next steps. The driver information center display will now display Ready For Electronic Key # 1.
  4. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket. When the transmitter is learned, the driver information center will indicate that it is ready to program the next transmitter.
  5. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket. To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4 and 5.
  6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press in on the ignition control knob to exit programming mode.
  7. Press the trunk or liftgate release button on each transmitter that was programmed. This will awaken each transmitter and allow passive and active keyless entry functions to be established.
  8. Verify each transmitter that was programmed is operating properly. Operate each of the keyless entry functions using the buttons on the transmitter and then start the vehicle. When verifying operation, make sure that no other transmitters are near the vehicle.
