My lift gate is not unlocking, yes. We were at a tailgate

My lift gate is not unlocking
JA: Is this your first time dealing with this issue?
Customer: yes. We were at a tailgate yesterday and it was raining. The lift gate was going to hit the canopy so I stopped it by hand. This ended up happening a half dozen times. When we went to load up before the game, the lift gate would not unlock.
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2011 SRX
JA: Are you fixing your SRX yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I Sorry, I Sorry, I'm looking at it. It unlocked this morning and we got everything out through the back, but now it won't unlock again. I saw how to remove the light and get it unlocked and have removed the decorative covering but haven't gotten anything else done. Not sure where to start.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Can't think of anything Yes. I would like to fix myself

Start with replacing the latch actuator in the tailgate.

I have also seen problems with the liftgate switch that will cause this problem.

You need a scan tool that is dealer quality to access the liftgate control module, it will set a code if there is a problem. There is also a relearn procedure for the gate.
