Customer Question

1999 Cadillac Escalade having some steering problems loss of power steering when not using the gas pedal going slow around corners and making slow sharp turns also have found some purple greasy type substance coming out of the shifter lever lever on the steering column is there some type of grease packing inside the steering column that has wore out , only other thought where purple gooey substance may have been derived from the possibility of melted purple rubber bands that may have been looped around shifter lever , the steering on this escalade has always had afair amount of play in the wheel

Hello, my name is***** is a common symptom of a worn power steering pump. You can get a power steering pump for around $200 then it will cost another $200 to have it installed at a shop. You can install yourself in a couple hours. The purple substance sounds like melted rubber bands as nothing else would fit that description. Let me know if you have more questions or would like replacement instructions. Thanks.
