Does leaving the car radio on when engine is turned off

Customer Question

Does leaving the car radio on when engine is turned off cause the battery to run down?

Absolutely! When the radio is on, this is drawing a steady and constant voltage from the battery. Without the engine running, the Alternator is not spinning and is not re-charging the battery. So the battery is quickly being drained because the voltage draw is not being replaced. If the battery is on the older side, the quicker this can kill the battery. If the battery isn't that old, many times the battery can be saved by charging it, or even jump starting the vehicle and letting the alternator do it's job and recharge the battery.
