I recieved a payday loan online and paid all but one note. I am being contacted by a man in CA who claims he is a lawyer and that I am under invest. for internet fraud and other things because I defaulted on this online loan. He says I should send $433.00 to end this and that I am suppose to go to Court over this in CA in a few days. I live in LA and have gotten no subpoena. Is this man trying to scam me? What should I do?

You should not communicate with the person over the phone. If the creditor intends to communicate, they can do so via the mail.

You would be required to be noticed of the civil suit to collect the debt. The civil suit would need to be filed in Louisiana. It seems that you are most likely dealing with a false threat. This is most likely an unethical collections attempt. You should not send any funds unless you receive written verification of the debt and you feel it is legitimate.
