Customer Question
No start. Seems like...

No start. Seems like injectors are shut down -- as are ignition. Good fuel pressure at test port. Starter cranks good. Car is a low mileage 1994 Roadmaster wagon. Runs just great. But sometimes refuses to start. Optispark is replaced + lots of senders and tps. I just dont know

Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the vehicle? And when was it last serviced?

It has 90000 miles don t know about service. It has only been driven occaisonally over the last years.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Roadmaster yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes myself. Replaced all what I wrote above.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

It never fails to start when warm. Has failed on random occaisions. Now brought out from storage (3 months) and been running great for a week. Now refuses to start.

Hi there - is there a black pellet on your key?

The ignition key

there is ---- I have tried the VATS system. Tried both keys and checked for correct resistance. All seems ok.
Buick Mechanic: Canuck Tech, Technician replied 4 months ago

Yeah, but it isn't usually a key issue - the contacts wear in the ignition switch, or the wires break in the tilt column.

When it doesn't start, have you paid attention to the security light?

Ask Your Own Buick Question
Buick Mechanic: Canuck Tech, Technician replied 4 months ago

The module will turn the SECURITY lamp on for about five seconds during engine start-up for a bulb check. A solid (not flashing) SECURITY indicator is illuminated if the theft deterrent module enters shut down mode thus preventing the vehicle from starting.

Because... it seems like you've gone down the EFI electrical road... Isn't that distributor is a nice spot???

I think my vehicle has a "PASS KEY" light. Seems to work properly. Lights up and then go out...... Good fuel pressure. (check) No spark at plug (check) Plugs dry after cranking (check) Almost new battery (check) Starter cranks real good (check)
Buick Mechanic: Canuck Tech, Technician replied 4 months ago

OK - well, hopefully another expert has some ideas for you. It's a cool ride, but no fun when it doesn't run!

Just annoying !
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Should the VATS allow the starter to run if activated ??
Buick Mechanic: Canuck Tech, Technician replied 4 months ago

It depends if there is SEO - special equipment option - With SEO, it will cut fuel, but still crank (no injector pulse)

Without SEO, it will cut the starter circuit.

Info is a little vague on this one - SEO seems to refer to a radio cd combo
