Heater blowing cold on...

Heater blowing cold on driver side 2000 Buick LeSabre. Which actuator controls floor heat? Left side?

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the coolant level? Has there been any leaking from the hoses?

Yes coolant checked. No leaking. Heard clicking of gears inside actuator breaking and now only cold comes out.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your LeSabre yourself? What have you tried so far?

Trying to, yes. Have not tried anything yet except checking coolant.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

No, thank you!

Thanks for holding!

When the temp output is only correct on one side of the dash, this is more commonly due to a faulty actuator. This is a small servo motor that turns the door internal of HVAC housing to switch between heat and a/c. The driver's side actuator is located behind the center/driver's side of the dash (just above and to the right of the accelerator pedal). To gain access, the driver's side lower insulator panel will need to be removed. Once removed, work upwards on an angle to the center dash. Inspect the electrical connector and wire harness for any loose, broken or damaged wires. If no problems are found, remove the actuator and turn the door pin by hand. The temp output should now be correct. If not, then the problem lies internal of the HVAC Housing. It will need to be removed from the vehicle and repaired/replaced as needed. Like I say though... more commonly this is an actuator problem. Fairly common fail items.
