hi my name is ***** ***** I try to help. just a few questions, when it turns over does it turn normal or faster then usual? did this happen all of a sudden or after things were done to the engine? did you have fuel put into it recently from a different then usual station? Have you pulled a spark plug out to look at it yet and were they replaced recently?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
the car cranks at a normal speed
it has killed 2x or 3x before and restarted
last time was yesterday
i noticed an odd odor following behind yesterday after it sat 2 or 3 minutes and restarted
i ran fuel into a bucket and it looks fine
it ran at a very impressive rate
i have not pulled the plugs
the car is well maintained
i just replaced the pressure regulator

i replaced the fuel pressure regulator in an attempt to fix this problem

what is the mileage on it and would you mind pulling a spark plug and telling me what you see the color on the insulator and gap if it's black and sooty

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
110000 miles
the car is 5 miles away and the trip will take 40 minutes due to a wreck and normal trafficwhat will it mean if the plug is black other than rich fuel or ignition issue
Expert:  Peter Bagley replied 11 months ago.

black means just that, too rich or not a good or constant spark. have you checked yet? how many times has this occurred? does your scanner or code reader check for pending codes?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
not a pending code reader just generic codes
does this question remain open for the hour or more it will take to pull a plug

if the spark plug insulator is white -- lean mixture may be vacuum leak, black is rick or fouled , brown is just right or normal. check air hose to throttle body for tightness or cracks. Thet are also known for bad map sensors. Disconnect the battery for about 2 min and reattach and try , Does it stay running if throttle held off the idle, giving it more fuel?

i attached a drain to the fuel rail port and cranked the engine with the intent to look for water.
the fuel ran into an empty 5g gas can
with the fuel freely running and the engine cold it started and ran
exhaust smelled but engine ran very smoothly
i pumped out 10g and the car seemed to run out of fuel
i poured 2g of fresh gas with Heet added to remove any moisture
by then the car was warmed
the car would buck and run for a few seconds
i opened the fuel port and let out 1/2g of the fresh fuel
but the car would not restartwhat now mr. bagel?

in other words, after the gas tank appeared empty judging by the gauge and what i knew should be in there the engine bumped around and died.
i added 2 gallons of fresh fuel
it would not start
i reattached and redrained by running the starter 1/2 gallon of fresh fuel
even though it earlier ran perfectly with the fuel pouring out into a tank
after it stopped and fresh fuel added, it would not restart.
