1995 buick park avenue: with a 3800 v6..drivers side..hood..glove box

This answer was rated:

I have a 1995 buick park avenue with a 3800 v6. sister reports it started running rough and wont restart. when you turn the switch to the on position, the engine icon flashes real fast with the the drivers side relay under under the hood cycleing and a relay under behind the glove box cycling. with a fresh battery, the engine turns over ok, timing light reveals the engine is firing, The fuel pump runs constantly when the switch is turned on. any ideas

Hello and welcome.

With the conditions you are describing, this sounds like a bad PCM..

A flashing check engine light is the tell-tale sign of this.

If it were a ground problem, the engine would not crank good as you have described.

Relays clicking under the hood and in the dash normally are because of a low voltage condition, but this is not case here, because it cranks good.

Fuel pump constantly running with the key ON is another sign. The PCM controlls the fuel pump relay.

My Haynes manual only mentions a pcm for 1996 and later models, it does discuss a ECM located under the pasengers side lower dash. are they the same? if not where is the pcm located on this 1995 model.
