this motor don't have any codes . its a 1978
Marine Mechanic: roybelding,
 replied 2 months ago

ok

air in the line is not good. it may be coming from the engine which means something is wrong internally.

the pick up screen cracked, gasket at the pump or pump to block, or low oil level.

there are no codes for mechanical issues.

I have a 1995 Bayliner Jazz Jet boat with a 120HP Mercury
I have a 1995 Bayliner Jazz Jet boat with a 120HP Mercury sport jet. Not knowing how to winterize it last fall we poured some RV antifreeze into the engine thru the water intake hose and fogged the engine. When we went to flush it out. We have the Mercury hose adapter for it. We turned the hose on prior to starting the engine like I would on any outboard not to damage the impeller. The engine would not turn over and in fact would move. I took out the top two spark plugs and they looked fine. I took out the bottom two and water came out of the cylinders. Freaked me out but knew I had to get the water out of the cylinders. I did by turning the engine with out the plugs. I then coated the cylinders with fogging oil and also sprayed in the carbuator. Put the plugs back in and was able to get it started. Felt better. I learned that it had a SS impeller and that it wouldn't get damaged and that I had to start the engine first before we turned the water on as to not flood the cylinders again. We were able to start it and let it run for a while. Everything seemed normal. We went to launch it and couldn't get it started. We opened the hatch and noticed the bilge pump was running because water was coming in the bilge. It seemed that when we were trying to start it that the enging would pump water into the bilge through a small port at the bottom of the bilge. We took it out. It sat for a few weeks and I decided to try and start it again to see if we could figure it out. We got it started but didn't hook the hose up. We noticed that we were getting an exhaust gas from that port that we saw the water coming in a few weeks earlier. I didn't know if this was normal for water to be pumped in there and then the automatic bilge pump would pump it out. I has two bilge pumps. One has a automatic float switch. The other is controlled by the switch on the dash. The spark plugs look very clean and no carbon deposits on them. Is it possible this is just an old boat and needs a good tune up. We bought this last year and it has been a learning experience. Any advice would be appreciated. … read more
