Just bought a new humminbird helix 9 SI, CHIRP gen 2 sonar

Customer Question

Hi guys - just bought a new humminbird helix 9 SI, CHIRP gen 2 sonar unit. Am VERY confused about best spot for transducer. Some say amidships - others - off to the side is OK. Some say its OK to have the bottom of it just below the bottom of the boat, others have it up as much as 6 inches on the transom - won't that interfere with Sonar beams?. Finally, from the actual instructions, it suggests you shouldn't even mount it on the transom unless your motor has a jack-plate. Mine doesn't - help!

HI Doug, sorry for the delay. You can mount the transducer pretty much where it will fit best, ***** ***** center on the boat for a better reading related to your keel. Make sure there is nothing protruding from the hull like a vent or water pickup directly in front of the transducer, so water going by it will not be disturbed. Mount it slightly above the hull line 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the bottom will be fine.
