Customer Question
Hello Jason I have...

Hello Jason I have a Stanly all welded aluminum boat with a yahama 70 F outboard I have two props one is a 13/12 x 15 k this pulls tubers great but only gets to 4500 WOT the other is a 13/12 x 17 k it gets to 5200WOT is this harmful to the motor ? Should I get another prop that will get me to 5700 WOT ? Should it be three or four blade as both props currently take about 3500 rpm to get on plain

Mechanic's Assistant: Sometimes things that you think will be really complicated end up being easy to fix. The Marine Mechanic I'm going to connect you with knows all the tricks and shortcuts. Is there anything else the Marine Mechanic should be aware of?

The boat weighs about(###) ###-####lbs if you are looking up Stanly boats they are made in Perry' Sound Ontario Canada 17'duel console

Hello, Jason here. You wrote "Yamaha 70 F". Is this engine a 2 stroke or is it really an F70 4 stroke engine? What year is the engine?

Sorry it is an F 70 three years old

I've read everything so far. Something does not make sense. If you are getting 5700 WOT RPMS with a 13 1/2 x17 propeller ,changing to a 13 1/2 x 15 would actually increase your RPMS to 5900, not drop them all the way down to 4500. Are you getting that 4500 WOT RPMS when you are pulling tubers or when just cruising?

You are the second guy to tell me this but unless the props are stamped wrongly this is what I get.
Marine Mechanic: Jason, Marine Mechanic replied 1 year ago

Well i'm confused by 1 part. Are you getting 4500 when you are actually in the process of pulling tubers with the 13 1/2 X 15 propeller? Or are you getting 4500 all the time even when cruising with that propeller?
