My 2008 Mercury 275 Verado is hard stating, but runs

Customer Question

Good morning. My 2008 Mercury 275 Verado is hard stating, but runs perfectly after it starts. I have twins and the other motor fires right up. Any suggestions
JA: Sometimes things that you think will be really complicated end up being easy to fix. The Marine Mechanic I'm going to connect you with knows all the tricks and shortcuts. Tell me a bit more about what's going on so the Marine Mechanic can help you best.
Customer: The motor cranks about 15 seconds before it fires. The other motors makes about two revolutions and it fires. Runs normally once started
JA: Is there anything else the Marine Mechanic should be aware of?
Customer: nope

I have a few questions back for you.

Is there a primer bulb in the fuel line?

Has any work been done to the fuel system?

Have you checked the oil level to see if it is raising?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
No primer bulb
Nothing new to fuel system
Oil not raising

Thanks. Have you already looked at the spark plugs to see if the tips are discoloring?

Are you sure that all 6 are firing?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Motor runs like the other one once

How about the plugs, have you looked at them?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
All good. Voltage cranking matches other motor too, so not the battery, battery cables or starter.

Have you tried to swap the crank position sensors and see if the issue will follow it?

What is the fuel pressure going to the rail on the bad engine?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I haven't. Normally when a motor is hard to start, there is other issues. This motor doesn't fall in that category. It idles and runs out just like the other motor

Alright then. You seem to be heading in the right direction. Good luck with this engine.
