Customer: I have a pontoon boat with 1999 johnson 75 hp outboard and can not figure out how to increase idle speed when starting. There is a black rubber covered button on top of control which feels like is has maybe an up and down switch under it but no lever to lift to speed up motor. How do I disengage motor and increase idle speed on start up so it will run? Thanks For your help.

No, I am not at the boat right now. Will leave this open on my computer and try and get info to you tomorrow. From what I have found so far I believe I am suppose to push the black button which should disengage the propulsion so I can push the throttle forward to increase the speed and it will remain in neutral and not go forward.
It is normally that way yes. Most models of control boxes have that feature. When you return the throttle control back to the neutral position, it should then reset the neutral lock and you can then shift into gear.
