I have a single caterpillar 3116 on a 34' boat that runs

Customer Question

I have a single caterpillar 3116 on a 34' boat that runs fine but at times just shuts down I was cruising at 2000 RPM for about 12 min and the Cat just stopped (no hesitation or surge).
This particular time it started after about a minute.

Thanks for asking your question. I will try and help you out.
I would suspect one of two things are causing your shutdown.
First is a faulty shutoff solenoid or faulty wiring going to it. I would verify power to the solenoid first when it shuts down. If there is power. I would try replacing the solenoid.
If the solenoid is ok. I would then suspect a problem in the governor.
