Customer Question

I was pushing my 2015 bayliner 170 90hp to angle it in my garage to wax it and bumped the back wall. Now there is a continuous beep coming from a small quarter sized (about 1/4 inch thick) piece under the dash. Key not even in the ignition. Had to remove battery cable to stop it. Any idea what I screwed up?

Hello, my name is***** will assist you.

Is the alarm that you are getting coming from a device that looks like this one?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not exactly but pretty close. Wires are the same color.

Is there any physical damage to the engine anywhere?

Is the engine what actually hit the wall?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Had the engine lowered. About 4 inches from ground. Hit in the area of the prop but doesn't show any type of damage.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

That shouldnt have caused this type of alarm to happen. Were the lock nuts on the battery tight when you removed the cables?

Are you near the boat now?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
they were. Unfortunately I'm not at home right now. I also noticed that the engine wouldn't trim up but does trim down. I've had that issue twice in the past year and they put in a new trim limit kit in both times. The latest was last week.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

I am going to need you to look at some things on the engine. Such as the fuses and to remove the trim limit switch from the system.

There are no time limits here, when do you think that you could do so?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Unfortunately I won't get home until around 1630.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

No worries. I will be here all day.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks Charles I will get back with you as soon as able.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Sounds good. Talk to you then.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Charles I am home now.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

I am here.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
When I went to hook up the battery there's a clicking noise from the engine along with the beeping.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Keys not even in the ignition.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Can you tell, with the hood off, is it coming from the trim relays or the starter solenoid?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Coming from one of these which I assume to be the trim relays? Sorry first boat engine!
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Two are the trim and one is the main power. the ones with the blue and the green wires are the trim.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Feels like it's the one with the green wire.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Disconnect the trim limit switch. Then try it again

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That's the one clicking correct.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Or I should ask where is the trim limit switch
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Its on the left hand side towards the lower cowling.

Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Its about 3 in long, 1 inch wide with a lot of wires in it.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

No that is not it, it should be lower.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

That one is the ECU....

Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Follow the wires from the trim switch on the side of the cowling. It will lead right to it.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Closer?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Bingo!!

Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Unplug that and then hook up the battery.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Still same thing.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

Can you hook up the battery and then take a pic of the battery top. I would like to see it?
