Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Have you recently hit bottom or something in the water? Was a new hub installed in the prop?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not that I am aware, I bought it about a year ago, only thing I know is that the previous owner said he bought it from the original owner had an issue where he shifted too fast from forward to reverse and sheared something but a mechanic repaired it
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes, new hub in the prop
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Is the engine running when you are trying to shift it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Is it grinding when you shift, or do you hear nothing at all?If you shifted with the engine not running, and were turning the prop by hand, would it engage?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I was running when it sputtered, I came back to neutral, then went back into forward and got back up on plane, was about 3/4 throttle, and it just revved up and I pulled back on the throttle, then tried again and it would not engage forward or reverse
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hear nothing at all
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Ok, have you tried it by hand, or can you do so now?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Tried with the engine off, and still would not engage
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Have you looked at the gear oil to see if there is metal in it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Prop spins freely, when engaged
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, I have not
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The tell tale pisses water out fine
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Ok, you are going to need to remove the lower screw on the lower unit and allow some oil to drain out. Check to see how much metal is in it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok, what would that indicate if there is metal in the oil
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm not with the boat now, almost 9 pm here
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Metal in the oil would indicate either a gear failure, a shaft failure, or the clutch failed. Almost 9 here as well.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow, would that mean the lower unit needs replacing
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Either that or a complete rebulid.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Complete motor rebuild???
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
