Ok we need to start with a compression test. Do you mean water pump? Did engine over heat?

The first step is compression test. Then with engine running remove one spark plug wire at a time from either the spark plug or the distributor cap. Does the engine loose rpms? The compression must be 130 psi+ with no more than 15 % difference between cylinders. Post back with findings.
