Have Boat Questions? Ask a Boat Repair Expert.
Hello, my name is***** will assist you today.
What engine do you have?
Would you please post the full model number of the engine?
You cannot test the box itself, but you can test all of the inputs to it.
Are you not getting spark on the engine?
Ok how long is the engine running before it stops?
Have you checked the fuel?
Did you happen to buy fuel today or before this last trip?
Remove the cap from the fuel filter, then use the primer bulb and pump some fuel into a glass jar. Allow it to settle for a few minutes. Make sure that you do not have any lines in the fuel.
Cranking speed will also effect the spark on the engine.
Ok, do you have a multimeter to test the system?
Is the oil injection removed from the engine?
Why are you mixing the fuel and oil then. That would cause the motor to run rich.
Are you near the boat now and read to do some testing?
I have the engine as a 1990 is that correct? I will send the specs when you confirm the year.
Locate and unplug the Brown, Red and the Blue and Black/Red wires from the stator. Test the resistance between the Brown and Red it should be 660-820. Then test the resistance between the Blue and the Black/red. That should be 62-79.
The key needs to stay off. Have the wires disconnected from the box. You are testing the wires that go back under the flywheel.
did you test the wires that are going back under the flywheel? You cannot test just the box, you have to test all of the inputs to it.
On all 4 wires?
Ok, the stator is just bad. You will need to replace it.
