I just did the dumbest thing ever in the dark and connected

Customer Question

Hi Jeff,
I just did the dumbest thing ever in the dark and connected my starter battery backwards on a 2005 Merc 115. I am sick. Any idea how many components I fried?

Probably other than blowing a fuse, the voltage regulator would usually be the next component.

Will the engine start and run now? If not remove the plastic electrical cover and check the fuses. If the engine starts but a voltmeter on the battery and check the voltage, it should be above battery voltage which is 12.5 volts. Check at idle and at 2000 rpm. If the voltage raises you are OK.
