Customer Question

454 Mercuiser FWC's on 34' Sea Ray. Noise on one engine that has variously been identified as valves, stuck choke. I ran it today and did not notice the ticking noise this time, but noticed the exhaust hose flexing (panting) fairly rapidly. Exhaust water flow is good.

Hello. My name is Tan.

How old are these engines? How many hours do you have on the engine?

Engine noises can be hard to identify. Now a ticking sound can be many different things from and exhaust leak to a bad rod bearing. Can you do a video of the sound from different points on the engine?

The first thing I would do is a compression test to eliminate a possible cylinder or valve issue.
