Customer Question

I have twin mercruisers with bravo 2s . The boat gets up on a plane then the starboard engines rpm pegs and the boat lists heavily to starboard . This forces me to throttle down both engines to gain control . What is causing this?

Hi, my name is Kerry

It sounds like you have a slipping propeller hub on the starboard side.

Remove the propeller and check it for a chewed up hub.

If the hub looks okay, put paint marks on the hub and prop and reinstall and go for a run.

If the marks end up in a different place, the hub is slipping.

Another easier way to check is if you have a spare prop, try changing props.

If the hub is slipping, you can have a new one pressed it at a propeller repair shop.

If a known good prop still doesn't solve it,

you also have a cone clutch in the upper unit which could be slipping.
