My volvo penta 4.3 engine is overheating. Replaced thermostat

Customer Question

My volvo penta 4.3 engine is overheating. Replaced thermostat and impeller and it continues to overheat. Feels like water is being pumped in, no leaks observed or weeping of water pump, but water doesn't pump to headers. Pulled all hoses and ran water through them to make sure there was no debris.

Hello my name is ***** ***** am I speaking with? What is the model number on the engine? Does it have open cooling or closed cooling with a heat exchanger and antifreeze? Are you getting any alarms? How hot does the temp gauge say it's getting? Do you have an IR temp gun to get actual temperatures?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
It is a raw water cooling system. Alarms sounded. Got to 225 when alarms sounded. No IR temp gun, but it was burning hot to the touch. No model # ***** 180 BR

The next question I would have for you, and this is why an IR Temp gun would be important if you can get one, is this. Are the exhaust risers running as hot or hotter than the engine. Or are the risers noticabely cooler?
