Port F150 overheat alarm sounded, Shut down. Restarted after

Customer Question

Port F150 overheat alarm sounded, Shut down. Restarted after short rest. Tell tale working, Gauge indicated normal temp. Engine did not want to run over 2000rpm. Back to home on starboard engine. At idle, tell tale normal. Water spraying from lower unit just below cover. Lots of air bubbles from exhaust. Starboard engine idling peacefully, normally, no exhaust bubbles? Does this sound like a thermostat problem or something else?
