Customer Question

I have a yanmar engine and after 580 hours 13 months the welch plugs have corroded and caused a major failure resulting in a piston being destroyed . The welch plug looks like it a galvanised material . Is this usual to not have a brass plug . Should plugs on marine engines be brass / bronze or is galvanised considered appropriate . Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

Hi, my name is ***** ***** water cooled marine engines, the welch plugs should be either bronze or stainless steel, I've never seen galvanized plugs in a marine engine, evenanti-freeze filled engines. Are you the original owner?
